1. Clinica veterinaria do Populo
This clinic took care of the two dogs we submitted. Here we met some wonderful vets and assistants that really cared for the animals.
Dr. Vet. Rita Martins gave "the dog from the beach" eye surgery, treated her wounds, and kept her at the clinic for more than one month . At last Rita managed to find her a new home. This was much more than we could expect from a clinic on an island with such an enormous number of stray animals.
Clinica veterinaira do Populo will give surgery and neutur (castrate) animals for our donations, in cooperation with the organization described below.
Rita, who is our contact person, will send reports and photos regarding the animals they have treated. The information will be available here on this website.
2. Sociedade Micaelense Protectura dos animais
This is a small organization with 400 members in the island Sao Miguel. They support medical assistance to stray animals and to pets owned by poor people unable to pay the veterinary-expenses. In addition, the organization finances neutering of females (cats and dogs), in order to prevent birth of new stray animals. Members of the organization also give help at a dog shelter, and they pay for microships for the straydogs that actually are lucky to get a new home. This is a way to make people responsible for the dog they bring back home.
